Culture in Ancient Greece was very important. They all believed in Gods and Goddesses, and they were polytheistic. The temples in Athens showed how much religion was important to them. The Greeks worshipped and believed in many different gods and goddesses. They believed that the gods and goddesses looked and sometimes acted like humans, but never grew old or perished. All of the different gods and goddesses had different strengths and had different powers over particular areas of life. Greeks often told stories of the gods, called myths. Olympian Gods, the main Greek gods, were apart of many Greek’s lives.
In Greece, games and festivals were very important, as they were incorporated with worshipping gods. This was because the games usually included a sacrifice. There were often competitions with poetry, music, drama, and athletics. The Olympics originated from ancient Greece, and they honored the God, Zeus. The Pythian Games, held in Delphi, honored Apollo. An example of one of the festivals would be was a competition between playwrights. This festivals was held in honor of Dionysos, and it was what led to the creation of many great Greek plays.
